This is when you can buy the $199 Moto G4 – completely unlocked

Often confused with a phone without password protection, an unlocked phone actually frees your device from exclusive carriers and long-term contracts.

While appealing, many people consider owning an unlocked phone as either complicated, expensive, or requiring a bit of hacking – or at least, that’s how Motorola sees it.

In response to this conundrum, the phone maker is offering the universally unlocked Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus for the reasonable price tags of $199 and $249, respectively.

Available online and at brick-and-mortar retailers starting July 12, Moto G4 owners will need only to swap to the SIM card of their choosing if they ever decide to switch carriers or travel abroad.

While unlocking smartphones is a fairly accessible process, being able to pick one up that’s ready to go at a budget-conscious price will turn some heads – especially for you frequent fliers out there.
