Xiaomi Redmi 3s launched with 4G LTE, fingerprint sensor: Price, specifications, features

Xiaomi has today launched an improved variant of the affordable Redmi 3 smartphone.

Xiaomi has launched a new variant of the Redmi 3 called the Redmi 3s in China today. The Redmi 3s comes with a full metal magnesium alloy unibody design and is 8.5mm thick. The smartphone will be going on sale in two variants — 16GB variant with 2GB of RAM priced at 699 Yuan (Rs 7,000 approximately), and the 32GB variant with 3GB of RAM priced at 899 Yuan (Rs 9,000 approximately). The new Redmi 3s will be available in dark grey, silver and gold colors, and will be going on sale from June 16. At the time of filing the story, there is no word on a global launch.

The Xiaomi Redmi 3s was recently spotted on China’s TENAA, and everything revealed in the listing is in line with the final launch. Just like the Redmi Note 3, the new Redmi 3s too has a fingerprint scanner placed at the back below the primary camera.

Xiaomi Redmi 3s specifications, features: The Redmi 3s flaunts a 5-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display, and is powered by a Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset paired with 2GB of RAM. On the camera front, the device sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Both the front and the back cameras come with 1080p video recording capabilities.

The smartphone is equipped with a 4,000mAh battery and a 4,100mAh battery for the 16GB and the 32GB variants respectively. It also has a hybrid SIM slot that lets you use the secondary nano SIM slot as a microSD slot as and when required. Connectivity options include 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS. The Redmi 3s runs MIUI 7 based on Android OS.

Besides the addition of the fingerprint scanner at the back, the Redmi 3 also had a Snapdragon 616 octa-core processor. The rest of the specifications and features remain much the same.
