Latest update to Android Wear platform is expected to bring a slew of new features. The update will bring app permissions for improved privacy control and doze mode to conserve battery life when the smartwatch is idle for long time.
Google recently announced a new update for its Android Wear platform. The update brings new gestures and speaker support for certain smartwatches, allowing user to make and receive calls right from the wrist. Motorola has also announced an update for its Moto 360 (2nd gen) smartwatch, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. While Google left out few features in its release notes for that update, Motorola has put up a complete changelog and new features that the update brings.
Along with features such as Moto Body running app to track time, page, distance and heart-rate, and screen dimming to save battery life, the update also brings doze mode and app permissions. Similar to smartphones, the doze mode can conserve battery of your smartwatch by putting it into deep sleep when not in use.

App permissions is another feature that is likely to work similar to the way it works on Android smartphones. It will give users the ability to modify app permissions from the settings menu, thus offering more control over the data that your smartwatch shares with the apps.
With support for new gestures, you can push, lift or shake the wrist to expand the cards, bring up the apps or return to the watch face, respectively. That’s not all; Google has also added the ability to send messages with your voice for popular apps including Telegram, Viber, WeChat, WhatsApp, Nextplus and Google Hangouts. To do this, you can simply say “OK Google, Send a WeChat message to Andy: I’ll be right there,” and you’re done.
There isn’t much of clarity if these features will be specific to Motorola’s Moto 360 or will make way to other smartwatches too. We will have to wait until other manufacturers start pushing out the update to their respective smartwatches.
