Defiant Ringing Bells says it will ship Freedom 251 smartphone by June 30 for Rs 251 via cash on delivery

Despite all controversies, Ringing Bells says it will deliver Freedom 251 smartphone by June 30 and has sent confirmation SMS to those who registered.

Noida-based Ringing Bells may have been given all sorts of labels, but it sure doesn’t seem to be ready to quit. The maker of the Freedom 251 smartphone, is under trouble from all quarters, but it is still defiant about delivering the world’s cheapest smartphone. Ringing Bells is now promising to deliver the Rs 251 smartphone by June 30 via cash on delivery.

Ringing Bells put up a post on its Facebook page saying, “Today is a historic day. We have sent out the confirmation SMS/E-mail to the people who will be receiving the Freedom251 phones by June 30 through Cash on Delivery. Kindly like the post and comment here as and when you receive the SMS/E-mail.”

Quite a few users have commented on the post confirming that they have indeed received a SMS from the company with the order number and delivery promised by June 30. That said, there are a few users who have commented saying that they haven’t received any SMS or email despite having booked on freedom251.com.

Ringing Bells created quite a buzz since it announced the Freedom 251 smartphone. But from showing an Adcom-branded smartphone at the launch event, to claiming it is a part of government’s Make in India initiative, there have been controversies aplenty. The company’s claim to deliver a 3G smartphone at Rs 251 sounds too good to be true, and it is currently being investigated by the Income Tax Department, Department of Electronics and IT, Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the Noida Police among others.

Amid all the controversies, Ringing Bells maintains that there is nothing shady about its operations and it is ready to co-operate with all investigations. In fact, the company has said that it plans to import 50 lakh units of the smartphone, and make Rs 31 profit on each of them.

The Ringing Bells Freedom 251 is now set to be delivered by June end. We will wait to see if the Noida-based company stays true to its word.
