HTC 10 photos, price, features and specifications: Everything we know ahead of April 12 launch

HTC 10 is finally set to launch on April 12, and with a little over 15 days to go, here’s everything we know so far.

The likes of Samsung, LG and Xiaomi have already announced their flagship smartphones for 2016, and while HTC was left out, it wouldn’t be long until the Taiwanese company announces its highly-anticipated smartphone. The HTC 10 launch event is set to take place on April 12, simultaneously in New York, London and Taipei. With a little over 15 days to go for the official launch event, here’s a roundup of everything we know so far.

Thanks to numerous leaks and rumors, and teasers from HTC, we now have a fair idea of what to expect from the HTC 10. In the latest leak, courtesy of Chinese online retailer Taobao, the HTC 10 has been pictured from all angles, leaving little to imagination. Besides the handset’s design, the leaked photos also offer a closer look at the metal chassis replacement shell, which is expected to be sold for around $30 (approximately Rs 2,000).

HTC 10 Design
From what we can see in the leaked photos, the HTC 10 has a hybrid design, taking cues from the One M9 and One A9. The smartphone boasts a full-metal unibody design. While the HTC logo is missing from the front, the capacitive buttons have made a comeback. Below the screen, there’s a physical home button, which is rumored to come with an integrated fingerprint scanner.

While the dual-frontal BoomSound speakers are missing, HTC has already teased a ‘new Boom’ speaker on the HTC 10. It remains to be seen if it can be as impressive and loud as the ‘BoomSound’ speakers that some HTC smartphones come equipped with. Earlier leaked press renders pointed that the smartphone will be available in four color options with black and white front panels. While the black variant is set to come with white and black back panels, the white variant would be offered in gold and white back panels.

HTC 10 Cameras
With the One series, HTC had been trying to give a push to photography. The company first introduced a 4-UltraPixel sensor with larger pixels to capture more light, thus offer better low-light imaging capabilities. However, the photo quality didn’t turn out to be as good as those on Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy range of smartphones. For the One M9, HTC opted for a Toshiba made 21-megapixel sensor, which again failed to deliver impressive results.

This time around, HTC is giving another shot with the rumored 12-UltraPixel sensor with optical image stabilization, laser auto-focus, and an 8-megapixel front facing camera on the HTC 10. The company’s CFO has already confirmed at MWC that the HTC 10 would come with a ‘very very compelling camera experience,’ and the company’s latest teaser also pointed to ‘World First, World Class’ cameras on the yet to be announced smartphone.

HTC 10 specifications and features
From what we’ve learned so far, the HTC 10 is likely to flaunt a 5.2-inch WQHD running at a resolution 2560×1440 pixels. At the heart of the smartphone, it could either be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset or an equivalent MediaTek processor paired with 4GB of RAM. A latest rumor also suggests that HTC is working on a variant with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 processor. On the storage front, 16GB, 32GB and 128GB variants are expected, along with microSD card slot for further expansion.

In terms of connectivity, a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.1 are likely to be in tow. The HTC 10 is rumored to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow wrapped under HTC’s Sense UI 8.

HTC 10 price and availability
The HTC 10 powered by Snapdragon 652 with 3GB of RAM and 16GB onboard storage is rumored to be priced at RMB 3,799 (approximately Rs 39,000). On the other hand, the Snapdragon 820 powered HTC is expected to come with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage for RMB 4,999 (approximately Rs 51,500), whereas the one with 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage could set you back by RMB 5,888 (approximately Rs 60,500).

In terms of availability, the HTC 10 is rumored to go on sale in Taiwan starting April 15. However, there is no word on when it will be available in other markets.
