Facebook Messenger for Android gets Instant Articles integration, iOS app update coming soon

With Instant Articles support, links on Facebook Messenger will now open up to 10 percent faster.

Facebook has lately been really enthusiastic in integrating new features to its instant messaging platform, Messenger. After multiple updates in the recent past, Facebook is now bringing Instant Articles support within its Messenger app. This essentially means when users tap on an Instant Articles-supported link in Messenger, it will open within the app instead of redirecting users to mobile browser. The update is currently being rolled out for Android while it will be available for iOS soon.

Till now, stories and articles shared on the Messenger app were being accessed by users on the web, which took a while to load depending on their internet speed. Instant Articles, however, are a much faster ways of accessing articles. Facebook claims that Instant Articles load almost 10 times faster than the traditional mobile web. The new feature will be indicated by a lightning bolt symbol on the top-right corner of links that are shared on the app.

The latest update comes months after Facebook expanded its Instant Articles platform to all publishers. Integration within Messenger will further help Facebook get more publishers join the Instant Articles platform as well as make its Messenger app more intuitive. As mentioned earlier, the company has been adding more features in the Messenger platform such as the AI-based chatbots and end-to-end encryption.
